Which file types can Tapeloop play?
MP3, M4A/AAC, Apple Lossless (ALAC), FLAC, WAV and AIFF. OGG and Opus files aren't supported yet; Tapeloop skips them and tells you how many it skipped.
How do I add music?
Tapeloop plays files you already have. There are three ways to bring them in:
- From Files: tap + in the Library and pick songs or whole folders from iCloud Drive, On My iPhone or a USB drive. Folders keep their sub-folders.
- From your Mac: connect your iPhone, open Finder, select your iPhone, open the Files tab and drag songs or album folders onto Tapeloop. They appear the next time you open the app.
- AirDrop and “Open in…”: share an audio file from another app or Mac and choose Tapeloop.
Want to look around first? On the empty Library screen, tap Try with demo songs. You can remove them later in Settings.
Where are my songs stored?
In the Files app under On My iPhone › Tapeloop › Tapeloop Music. You can also manage them there, or from Finder on your Mac: songs you add or remove there show up in the app when you return to it. To check right away, tap Settings › Rescan library.
A song has the wrong title, artist or no cover
Tapeloop reads the tags inside the file (ID3 for MP3, iTunes tags for M4A, Vorbis comments for FLAC). If a file has no tags, it uses the file name (“Artist - Title.mp3” or “02 Title.mp3”) and the folder names for the album and artist. Fix the tags with a tag editor on your computer, copy the file in again, and Tapeloop picks up the changes.
What does “Delete from iPhone” do?
It removes the song from Tapeloop and deletes Tapeloop's own copy of the file. When you import a song, Tapeloop copies it, so the original you imported from (for example in iCloud Drive) stays where it was.
Does it keep playing when my iPhone is locked?
Yes. Use the lock screen, Control Center, AirPods or your car to play, pause, skip and scrub. Music pauses when you unplug headphones or take out your AirPods, and picks up again after a phone call ends.
Are albums played without gaps?
Yes, when the songs share the same audio format, as tracks from one album usually do. You can turn this off under Settings › Gapless playback.
How does the sleep timer work?
On the Now Playing screen, tap Sleep and choose 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes, or the end of the current song. With a set time, the music fades out over a few seconds and pauses; with “End of current song”, it stops when the song finishes.
How do I use the equalizer?
On Now Playing, tap EQ. Turn it on, pick a preset such as Bass Boost or Vocal, or drag the ten sliders yourself; changes are heard right away. Tap + Save to keep your own curve, and long-press a saved preset to delete it. The preamp lowers the overall level if loud songs start to distort.
Is Tapeloop really free?
Yes. Every feature is free, including the equalizer, the visualizer and all colour themes. There are no in-app purchases, no subscriptions and no ads.
Can Tapeloop download or stream music?
No. Tapeloop never connects to music services or websites; it only plays files that are already yours.
What happens to my data?
Your songs, playlists and settings stay on your iPhone. Tapeloop has no accounts, no ads and no tracking, and I can't see anything you do in the app. Read the privacy policy.
